The 65 Things Filipino Kids Did Before Internet Existed


It’s been a while we’ve come across these things that’s why I’ve decided to compile and create a post about the best decade of my life.

Yep, you know what I’m talking about, 90’s kids! As for me, nothing beats something that has been a part of me and has made an impact especially during my elementary days. I consider myself lucky because I was really able to experience most of them.

If you were born in the same generation as I am, you’ll appreciate so many things on this list from your very sweet childhood.

I know, you can’t help but remember the addicting cartoons on TV, the coolest Filipino snacks, the catchy commercials that got stuck in our heads, the amazing yet inexpensive toys, the Titanic, the most awesome Filipino games in the whole wide world, and so much more that would always make you proud or even laugh that you were indeed born in the 90s.

Just seat back, relax, let’s travel through time and reflect about these 65 things that you did before the Internet existed.

1. You watched Power Rangers and Captain Planet religiously.


2. You enjoyed playing Tex, Pog, and Jolens.


3. You loved dancing to the tune of Macarena.



4. You got addicted to “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” and “Goosebumps” and get scared every after episode.


5. You had a favorite member of the Spice Girls and All Saints.


6. You got hooked with shows like Atbp, Hiraya Manawari, Sine Skwela, Wansapanatym, Batibot, Math Tinik...


7. You loved singing the songs of the Backstreet Boys, ‘N Sync, and The Moffatts.


8. You played “Bahay-Bahayan” or “Lutu-Lutuan” and used empty Candy Wrappers and “Tansan” as your money.


9. You loved to collect Paper Dolls.


10. You enjoyed watching morning cartoons dubbed in Tagalog like Sarah ang Munting Prinsesa, My Daddy Long Legs, Cedi ang Munting Prinsipe, Julio at Julia, Cinderella, Remi...


11. You were considered “in” if you had a Game Boy.


12. You had a virtual pet in Tamagotchi.


13. You felt cool whenever you sing the songs of Eraserheads and Michael Learns to Rock.


14. You enjoyed watching movies via VHS.


15. You memorized all the members of Ninja Turtles and The Sailor Moon.


16. You never missed an episode of Gimik, G-Mik, Tabing-Ilog and T.G.I.S.


17. You had a Family Computer.


18. You owned a Slingshot made from wood.


19. Your hobby is to go to 1 peso/5 minutes video arcades to play Street Fighter, Super Mario, Sonic, Pac-Man...


20. You were kind of addicted to the smell of Plastic Ballon.


21. You have a Rainbow Slinky that you liked to roll down the stairs.


22. You were pretending Stick-O were cigars because it made you feel so bad-ass.


23. You enjoyed playing Ten-twenty, Chinese Garter, Piko, Tumbang Preso, Patintero, Langit Lupa, Luksong Baka, Dr. Quack Quack...


24. You have lot of tricks playing Jackstones and Pick Up Stix.


25. You had a fight playing Brick Game.


26. You liked to buy Bazooka Bubble Gum just to read the comics inside.


27. Your favorite milk powder is Mik-Mik and Haw-Haw.


28. Your favorite junk foods were Captain Sid, Sweet Corn, Sunshine, Tomi, Nutri Star, PeeWee, Moby, Pritos Ring...


29. Your favorite soft drinks were Sarsi, Pop Cola, Cheers and Sparkle.


30. Your all time favorite chocolate bar is Choc-nut and Serg’s.


31. You thought Shake, Rattle and Roll was the scariest movie ever.


32. Your favorite candies were White Rabbit, Butter Ball, Nougat, Orange Swits...


33. You were considered “cool” if you had a Walkman.


34. You would listen to the Radio all day long just to record your favorite song of all time.


35. You thought the Waterful Ring-Toss is the hardest game you ever played.


36. You collected a lot of Sanrio Stationery Papers and exchanged it with your girl friends.


37. You played a game called “FLAMES” to predict your future with your ultimate crush.

38. You would go crazy if you lose one of these...


39. You thought you were the coolest kid if you wear Sketchers or Adidas.


40. You knew all the characters names and their life stories on “Saved by the Bell” and “FRIENDS.”


41. You remembered sharing scary stories when there’s a power outage at night.


42. Your family were considered “rich” if you had the complete set of Tupperware.


43. You tried very hard to click all the colors down at once.


44. You liked to cover your hands with White Glue just to peel it off afterwards.


45. You knew the unique relationship between a Cassette Tape and a Pencil.


46. You still memorize the old version of “Panatang Makabayan.”


47. You played communion and used Haw Flakes as the “Body of Christ.”


48. You believed this can predict your future...


49. You begged your mom just to buy these for you... (I did, though)


50. You loved to wear Jumpers and Vest.


51. Your favorite superheroes were Bioman, Maskman, Shaider, Ultraman...


52. You wore a Snap Bracelet or a Baby G Watch.


53. You watched sitcoms like Palibhasa Lalake, Okay Ka Fairy Ko, Ober Da Bakod, Abangan ang Susunod na Kabanata, Home Along Da Riles, Oki Doki Doc...


54. You fell in love with Leonardo DiCaprio after watching the Titanic.


55. You memorized all the Catchy Phrases and Theme Songs in every commercial.


56. You owned a pair of Roller Blades.


57. Your mom had cut your hair like this...


58. You took care of Kisses because you believed they will procreate.


59. You climbed your neighbor’s Aratilis Tree to get these...


60. You tried to sip the nectar of the Santan Flower because it’s sweet.


61. You got super excited when Susy & Geno visit your school.


62. You were considered “famous” if you had these stuff...


63. You used to make Pintoora Gum Balls as your lipstick. (Admit it!)


64. You bought Bobot just to get the free ring.

   
65. Your obsessed watching anime series like Zenki, Magic Knight Rayearth, Dragon Ball, Voltes V, Ghost Fighter, Card Captor Sakura, Fushigi Yuugi, Slam Dunk, Akazukin Cha Cha, A Dog of Flanders...


66. And lastly, most of your friends are now getting married and you’re not!
